The City Tavern on East Boulevard closed March 28.
Plan B, a new restaurant-bar concept is tentatively scheduled to open in May.
No word on why the decision was made to shut down the Dilworth location, but it comes less than a year after its Lake Norman branch closed for a new concept.
City Tavern owner John Weinbrenner couldn’t be reached for comment.
This comes as no surprise to me. I live off East and have been a patron of CT many times. Too many actually. The roof top terrace kept us going back but the attitude from all of the staff and the subpar food finally made us stop. I’m glad it’s gone.
The two times I ate on the roof it reeked of the dumpsters below. When questioned the servers just shrugged their shoulders. Bartender was attentive and nice however.
doesn't surprise me. Ate ther often when that was the only location. Once it took off and they opened Uptown, Lake and Stonecrest opened - it was like the whole thing collapsed from the middle. Too much of a good thing too fast - service and food went down the tubes.
My last three visits to CT, twice to Stonecrest, once to Rivergate. left me less than impressed. I have since stopped going. The food was mediocore and the service could have been much better with little effort. This closing does not surprise me.
can't believe it hasn't closed sooner. their food sucks because they don't have a chef - just a recipe book and line cooks. the owner cared more about chasing tail than the quality of food. i worked there 1 summer and my friends/co-workers lovingly called it "sh**** tavern."
horray! the service was terrible prob. because the employees paychecks kept bouncing. i wouldnt care too much about my job either if i wasnt getting paid. Hopefully we can get a place with better business ethics in such a great area.
Not sure how the uptown location stays open either. Maybe they do an ok lunch to keep it going. I've eaten there a couple times at night and it's pretty dead. Food has gone downhill. Female Bartender seems to have a bit of an attitude.
Well guys i can have inside info and its great news!! This place has a diffrent concept with food, music and of course the upstairs bar is being remodled for summer enjoyment!
City Tavern has great food, great service and great atmosphere. We hate that the one on East Blvd closed down, but now we go to Stonecrest and their food and staff are amazing.
I was told Plan B the replacement of CT is adding a bar upstairs, and service is very important. They are going to enhance the upstairs experience. I really liked it and the staff was fantastic.
That's strange. Hopefully whatever replaces it keeps the rooftop outdoor dining.
ReplyDeleteWeird. I just ate there last week. The service and food were subpar. Guess it makes sense now.
ReplyDeleteHmmm. I gotta believe the lack of parking had to be a factor.

ReplyDeleteI hope the City Tavern remains open at Stonecrest....

ReplyDeleteForget City Tavern. We ate at Hotel Charlotte where the new menu was superb and the service was friendly and informative.

ReplyDeleteI went and will not be back. Food is to expensive and not very good. Seems to be a lot of confusion as well.
