Poolside chic at the Ballantyne Hotel

The Ballantyne Hotel is starting a weekly party inspired by the chic gatherings often hosted poolside at South Beach hotels like the Delano.

The new Thursday night party, which kicks off this week, coincides with the unveiling of the luxury hotel's new outdoor pool (about half the size of an Olympic-length pool) located just off the spa.

Guests can mingle on the pool deck overlooking the golf course or lounge on the cushy chaises while DJ Lotta Noize provides the music from the second level terrace. Two bars will serve cocktails and the pool menu will be available until 10 p.m.

The party, which is open to the public, starts at 6 p.m. and runs through Sept. 3. (If sunbathing is more your thing, the pool is also available to members of the public for a $50 daily fee or it's free to use with a spa service.)

  2. Go to a hotel pool for $50 a day. Now that must be a good pool!!!

  3. Sweet! CAAANNONBAAAAAAALL!!!

  4. Splendid, I always wanted to go to a rich WASP conference. I do hope the doormen keep out any commoners who try to sneak in. Now, let me see if my driver has directions from uptown to this Ballentyne, SC, area...

  5. Sweet!! This sounds awesome...although I doubt it could be like the Delano LOL. Can't wait to check it out :)

  6. That isn't charlotte that is south carolina out there.

  7. Give It Up Charlotte

    ReplyDelete
  8. Yeah, because Charlotte is just like South Beach & Vegas...

  9. Having been to the Delano in SoBe for dinner, I can say without a doubt, the pictures look nothing like it. That being said, it does look nice.

    Here's the Delano's site:

  10. Can I bring my pet goat? This is Charlotte afterall.

  11. Why is everything in this city so contrived? Is there nothing inherently cool in this city?

  12. Can't wait to see the photos: Three pathetic guys, arm's over their buddy's shoulder with a drink in their hands looking for their soul mate.

  13. That looks like a sad backdrop for a 'chic' pool party. Hell my old apartment pool area looks 10 times better than that area. After just coming back from SoBe I don't think it's going to be all that, half that or even a quarter of that.

  14. Best idea since "Playdate"! Gosh, hope they don't overlap.

  15. Maybe they could get lucky and the "Girls Gone Wild" bus would show up...?

  16. As someone who used to do marketing for a private country club, I would assume that it's not about charging people a high price to sunbathe, rather to give people another option without having to purchase the full membership. The membership at my club was $3000 initiation fee plus $129/month for a pool/dining membership when I was there... They probably figure the $50/day is a less expensive option for those that can't afford their full membership (I'm assuming around $250-$300/month)

  17. I would like the opportunity to DJ during this event. Check out www.elitedjsc.com

  18. For $50 bucks I'd be obligated to dump in the pool to get my money's worth.

  19. Like the thought and it's a start. We have the weather for it, but they forgot the atmosphere-Palm Trees and tropicals like sagos. Not too late and they do grow here.

  20. The public can go to the pool party but can't use the driving range if you don't pay to play the course or stay at the hotel. They may want $100 to hit golf balls!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Anonymous 12:15, you forgot to add that those three dudes all got gel in their hair, are drinking Bud Lights, and flashing faux gang signs for the camera.

    ReplyDelete
  22. And giving the DJ ten dollars to play some "jam" from Nickleback.

  23. The hotel's website says there is no admission fee to the Thursday pool parties. They start at 6. So, if ya all wanna make a splash... Could be fun.

  24. Anonymous 1:51 is on to something. Let's add designer jeans, rancid cologne, rehearsed smile and we have a "bromance"!

  25. Wow, what a letdown. When I first heard about this, I was expecting a Miami-esque setting. I've been to South Beach, and this is no South Beach. My neighborhood pool is bigger than this! No thanks. I'll stick with my home bar and kick-ass hot tub in my own back yard, thank you very much.

  26. Does anyone EVER have anything positive to say on this blog?

    ReplyDelete
  27. Seriously! What is there to complain about? It's drinking by the pool! Don't be so negative. Reading these responses is just depressing.

    ReplyDelete
  28. It's a nice FREE way for singles to swim in a pool with NO children and meet new people...get over yourselves haters!

    ReplyDelete
  29. If people have the $50 to pay, let them have at it. That said, Anon. 12:15 asked, "Why is everything in this city so contrived? Is there nothing inherently cool in this city?"

    Umm, no.

I've been saying for years that Charlotte should adopt the motto "Videri quam esse," or "to seem rather than to be."

    ReplyDelete
  30. From the website...It's FREE. Why do you people keep mentioning the $50 day charge??

Weekly beginning June 11 - September 3 | Open to the public, 21 and over and there is no admission fee - Put on your South Beach Chic attire and join the Thursday Night Pool Party at 6 p.m. The pool provides the ultimate outdoor lounge setting, perfect for unwinding and socializing. Relax with a favorite cocktail while listening to DJ Lotta Noize. From New York to Miami, DJ Lotta Noize is known for keeping the party rockin’. 31. why go to south beach now????

  32. After 7 PM on Thursday the toughest golf hole in Charlotte will be the 18th at Ballantyne Resort.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Please don't confuse Ballantyne with Ballentine, SC. The one in SC is much better. Beautiful lake with good fishing and normal, down-to-earth people.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Was the Ballantyne Resort converted from a Hampton Inn? That is what it looks like from the outside

    ReplyDelete
  35. Yuppie fest! Watch out for Botox, Beamers, and Blackberries!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Uh yeah. To whoever said "my apartment has a better pool" is spot on! It IS a hotel pool, and not one in "South Beach". Charlotte does think it's something it most certainly is not, and that is "cool". For 50 bucks, I better get free drinks all night, and a guaranteed "hook up" for later.

    ReplyDelete
  37. This has got to be a JOKE. I hpe Sara post pictures of the 2 idiots that show up for this wine and cheezer fest.

    ReplyDelete
  38. It is NOT $50.00 on Thursday nights. People should learn to read.

It looks awesome and a great place to relax to relax after a few hours at their spa which is FANTASTIC!

    ReplyDelete
  39. All it needs now is Cabanas like South Beach

    ReplyDelete
  40. It's funny how people find one thing to complain about and then run with it! The pool party is FREE! The $50 is to go and use the facilities without actually being a guest of the hotel or spa....try to find anywhere else in any town to swim for free unless it is a city pool (YUCK).

You all are so missing the point!!! FREE POOL PARTY EVERY THURSDAY NIGHT!

    ReplyDelete
  41. They always do things right at Ballantyne Hotel. Very impressive! What a great way to spend a weekend! Drive to Ballantyne, take in a Spa appointment or two, round of golf, dip in the pool and a great meal at a great restaurant Gallery Restaurant.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I would far rather go to a poolside cocktail party at the Ballantyne Resort than anywhere in the cesspool of South Beach. Why even make the comparison? Charlotte is a beautiful city with much to offer that South Beach should try to emulate.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I love South Beach but you better take a Valtrex or get a Gardisil vaccination before getting into any of those pools!

It's a gorgeous pool, and the $50 fee is to keep out classless people who say they would "be obligated to 'excrete' in the pool to get my money's worth". Yes, Anonymous 12:56 PM, I'm talking about you and the poor unfortunates you associate with.

  44. Mr. Bissell continues to make Ballantyne a wonderful place to live, work, stay and play.

You can keep downtown! I can pull up the the Ballantyne, PARK MY CAR FOR FREE), and have a very relaxing day.

I for one am proud to live in this part of time and no, I am not rich.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I heard that Obama is now regulating who can live in Ballantyne and can use the pool......

    ReplyDelete
  46. These comments give me an idea for a drinking game: Take a drink every time you spot an "anonymous" comment from a Ballantyne resort employee. They're not too hard to spot so you should be enjoying yourselves very quickly.

    ReplyDelete
  47. drinking alone while reading blogs is probably considered unhealthy behavior...just a thought...

    ReplyDelete
  48. The pool at Ballantyne is absolutely wonderful! It is a great addition to the property! Where else can you and your favorite, swim, play golf, get a massage and dine in one of the most upscale restaurants in Charlotte? It is my idea of a great STAYCATION! Way to go Ballantyne!

    ReplyDelete
  49. It's hardly south beach but those that would rather hang out in their backyard hot tub, have at it. I'm sure there's all sorts of eye candy strolling through your living room. As far as Ballantyne being South Carolina, clearly you must have mental issues. or perhaps you're one of these local Charlotteans that used to go and have your way with the wildlife before the area was developed. The only issue with the Ballantyne area is that its over run with cougars on the prowl. Then again, South Park has the same problem. at least in Ballantyne you have a pool....I wouldn't pay $50 to get into any pool, but a cover charge can keep out the toothless hacks from South of the border...

  50. Lots of negativity on here. It's depressing.

So Charlotte is no South Beach, but who cares?? Who wants another South Beach?? One is plenty.

Yeah, Charlotte is growing and evolving. There's a lot more going on here now than there was 10 years ago. It's a nice place to live and in a lot of ways its better than South Beach (traffic, crime, cost of living).

To all of you who think South Beach is better than Charlotte... can I help you pack up your U-haul?
