Pay less to party

In a world where Pink Slip Parties are a new nightlife trend, high covers and $15 martinis won't be tolerated. Luckily, some bars and promoters are catching on.

By popular demand, I'm compiling a list of great deals around town. Know of more? Post them in comments or send me an e-mail. I'll list the best deals (ongoing or otherwise) each week.

  • The Attic is ZSpot on Thursdays, starting at 5:30 p.m. First 100 beers are on the house, so come early. Other specials include $2 Bud Lights and $5 Red Bull and vodkas all night.
  • The Plaza Midwood Krawl on Saturday (7-11 p.m.) is free. Meander through the neighborhood's funky shops and sip on free wine.
  • Every Friday is 50-cent draft night at The Pub at Gateway. Bud Light pints are 50 cents all day and all night.
  • Dixie's Tavern offers a $2 beer of the month every day. This month it's Bud Select and Michelob Ultra. On Thirsty Thursdays, enjoy $1.50 Coors Light bottles and drafts.
  • At Club Red's Sirens & Shields first-responders auction this Saturday, Michelob Ultras are free from 7-8:30 p.m. Nice way to warm up the bidding crowd. ($10 donation benefits the Red Cross.)
  • Take a break from the bar scene and check out the monthly Cult Movie Mondays at Actor's Theatre. The theater will show "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" on Monday at 8 p.m. Admission is free and so is the popcorn. $2 Miller Lights, Yuenglings and Coors Lights.
  • Cans has a special offer on Friday for March Madness: $1 domestic cans all day while you watch the games.

Eds Tavern - $1.50 coors light draft - all day every day.

Dilworth Neighborhood Grill - $2 coors light bottles Thursdays.

These two places have saved my wallet and killed my liver during this downturn.

Go to the grocery store:

24 pack of Yuengling for 14.99 (approx $.63/can).

12 pack of Miller Lite $8.49 (approx $0.71/bottle)

12 pack Corona $12.99 (approx $1.08/bottle)

Plus you don't have to put up with dudes in tight shirts and sunglasses on acting like tough guys.

Brixx - $1.95 microbrews every Monday (Sweetwater, Flying Dog, and a lot more). It used to be $1.50. Still a great deal though.

For heaven's sake, if you really ARE experiencing job loss or a pay reduction, consider staying home until you solve that proble so that the rest of us don't wind up supporting you through food stamps, rent subsidies, and free medical care.

So you're saying Brixx is about to become "loser central"?

Anonymous said...

Brixx has had this special for over 5 years now.

So what's your point Tool ? Because someone lost their job due to the economy they are now losers ?

Nice, I am sure you have a cell phone full of friends..........NOT.

If you are going to insult someone, you can at least leave your name.

You know, the internet is full of Trolls and the people here that are being negative towards Sara should just move along. She was hired to do a job and she does it to the best of her ability. Maybe I should stand outside your job and tell your boss that your function should be outsourced to india because they can do it cheaper, faster and better than you can. Grow up.

Cell phone full of friends? That is simply too shallow to respond to.

And yes: if you've lost your job and you think finding a cheap beer is important you are indeed a loser and will in all likelihood remian one until you grow up.

The pink slips are flyin’, it’s true,
It’s enough to make all of us blue,
But martinis are poured
So no one is bored,
And who knows, we might get lucky, too!

A good one in the NODA district is Revolutions. It is at the corner of 36th and North Davidson.
Tuseday Night - Date Night $20 dinner for two, includes two salads or appetizer, two meals, and two gelatos. Their gelato is wonderful!
Thursday Night is $3 pint night. This includes every beer on the menu, even micro brews. They have a ton of beer on tap and in stock. There are other specials, not too sure about them. Definitely check this place out! This is a great idea Sarah! I can't speak for the older crowd, but the younger Charlotteans love you! Keep up the great work, know things are tough over there right now.

that is amazing that the observer is cutting back and firing people and yet this girl gets paid to tell us what we could figure out ourselves by browsing through a creative loafing. at least tell us something we don't know...
