Travel Channel filming bar crawl

Charlotte party gurus Rich and Bennett are gearing up for their famous St. Patrick's Day Pub Crawl this Saturday -- and word about the massive uptown party has reached cable television.

Film crews from the Travel Channel's new "Extreme" series will be on hand to capture the chaos -- now in its ninth year -- as thousands of crawlers party the night away at 19 bars.

The crawl will be featured in an episode about extreme nightlife.

Up to 4,000 people from as nearby as Charlotte to as far away as San Francisco and even the United Kingdom are expected to attend. (Last year's attendance of 3,508 was a record and the guys expect to break it this year.)

Want to go? A prepay event will be held Thursday at Cans from 6-8 p.m. Tickets are just $20 at the prepay event, $25 online or $30 day of. Check-in starts at Dixie's at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Tell me about your wildest St. Paddy's Day experience and I'll enter you for a chance to win two free tickets to the crawl. E-mail me by 3 p.m. Wednesday.

Instead of drivel such as this can't the Observer send a writer with the Bobcats to write a story or two rather than relying on an AP story? Eliminating this blog and "That's Wassup!" should do the trick and also provide an upgrade to teh blogeshere.

This is a great event. Booze and have fun!!!!

Thats cool! I can't wait to see the episode after taping. Any idea when it will be televised?

This made the news, approximately four thousand people plan to drink and get drunk, how exciting.

instead of practicing douchebaggery, couldn't the first commenter realize that this is a blog about the charlotte nightlife? it would be an upgrade to the blogosphere.
looking forward to the crawl...

The Observer uses AP writers for their Bobcat coverage? Broke.

4,000 partygoers? Really? That's like what, a couple of high schools worth of students. Why don't they check out a real party town for St. Patrick's Day like Savannah, GA or Chicago? These guys must have relatives that live here and are looking for their network to pay for a free trip to see Aunty Linda and Uncle George.

That "crawl" is lame, not sure why anyone would pay money for that crap.

To all the Charlotte Haters: LEAVE! I am so tired of your crass, rude, negative, apathetic comments. It's a bar crawl for goodness sakes. Let it go and indulge. Have fun for once and stop your petty posts. Learn to love this city or leave!

The Observer already has a Bobcats writer. His name is Rick Bonnell.

It's so comical to read these posts. People get so worked up for no reason at all. I hope all you "Crawlers" have a wonderful time and I look forward to seeing your smiling faces on TV! :) Good luck Rich and Bennett on breaking that record! I have no doubt you will and you'll have a d@mn good time doing so. I'll lift my pint to you guys!

This is apparently one of the largest bar crawls in the world.

Don't knock something that you have never been to! I have been to Savannah a couple of times for St. Patrick's Day and have more fun on this bar crawl. P.S.....The Travel Channel contacted them!

I love the fact that there are some positive comments on this post! Negativity energy is such a waste...It’s a bar crawl people if you don't want to go then don't...but keep your negative comments to yourself! To all those going I toast to you! Good Luck Rich and Bennett on breaking last year’s record!

to the anonymous person who said "why don't they go check out a real town that celebrates st. patty's day" clearly you didn't READ the article. they are coming here for an episode about night life in general, not st. patty's day. i love it when i read posts from people like this...they write these negative comments because they wish they could attend. they take the time to read the article so obviously they have an interest in the event. cheers to you rich!! i've NEVER attended one of his events and not have a good time. to all of you who wish you could attend...i'll be sure to drink one for you....

I hate to admit this but Philly does a bar crawl right called the Erin Express, "There is no cost, no tickets, no reservations, no bracelets and no cover charge" and they have free buses shuttling people to different bars. Plus, they do the bar crawl two weekends in a row.

I know Bonnell is the Bobcats' beat writer. However, I don't think he was on the last West Coast trip nor at the game in NYC this past Sunday night. Maybe he didn't cover those games because of illness, family situation, etc. but if that's the case, send someone else to cover them.

Personally, I think he didn't cover those games due to budgetary reasons. If that's the case save money and eliminate this worthless blog and several others. I would think Creative Loafing would be a sufficient resource for those interested in bar crawls and related functions.

To whoever posted about Philly. Philadelphia SUCKS! It's a blue collar, working class town, with its low rent, loud mouth, thugged out NYC wannabe's. It is a dirty, FILTHY city that needs some serious clean up. It's all ghetto except for one block. And st. patty's or any night there sucks cause your too worried about getting mugged. If you ride the train, you WILL get robbed.

I am from Savannah, GA and so I grew up always having a HUGE St. Patty's day celebration. It is an official Holiday at home... now that I have moved up here it is great to have a huge celebration when I can't go home to celebrate there. This bar crawl is so much fun and a great time with your friends. I have been the past two years ... when it has been really hot and also a monsoon haha and they were both a great time. Can't wait to celebrate St. Patty's day again in Charlotte on Saturday!!

the best part is that rich & bennett will make more money on this bar crawl then most of the people making fun of this event will this entire year at their crappy office jobs! do the numbers, 4k people at $20-$30 a head.

congrats guys, can't wait until saturday!

I find your post hilarious (not in a good way). You are ridic. What's the one block that's clean? I would like to visit that part of town. Also, for your high class education, you need use to spell check.

Anonymous said...

Last time I checked, "ridic" wasn't a word. I have to agree with Mr./Mrs. High Class Education, Philadelphia is a hole.

Anonymous said...

Although I do love Philly cheese steaks. By the way this bar crawl is a fun time.

This bar crawl should be postponed just like the St Patrick's day parade is. I went to the one last year and poor rain ruined it.

Anonymous said...

I have about 20 friends that flew or drove in from out of town for this crawl...glad they are not postponing it!!!

Anonymous said...

My recommendation.. if they are calling for rain then carry an umbrella...No Big deal.. Rain or shine its time to party..Last year was a blast, regardless of the weather!

Anonymous said...

It wouldnt benefit anyone to post-pone it. There are people flying in from all over the Country and wherever else. Wouldn't be half as large as it wil be tmmrw, suck it up, grab an umbrella and raise your glass!

It seems you can't take criticism. You should grow thicker skin or move out, it'll help the city.

Congratulations, you have proven that you are no better than the people you are describing and that you are an ignorant elitist douchebag. Perhaps you should stay home this St. Patricks day, since it started out in this country as a blue collar Irish-American thing.
The difference between Philly and Charlotte is that Philly actually is a city. Charlotte is more like a large suburb or a large collection of suburbs, which it is in reality.
Anyone expecting a large American city like Philadelphia to be like Charlotte is just plain stupid. "OMG, Philly is so urban, I'm so shocked and appalled, baaaaawwww".

Anyways, I'm looking forward to the bar crawl. Hopefully people won't bring their kids to this and get offended by drunkenness. The last thing we need is another First Night.

I am new to Charlotte. Moved here from NYC. There they had bar crawls 6 Saturdays per spring and 6 saturdays per fall. Is this the only bar crawl for the year? I had alot of fun at the NYC crawls and would love to go to some here.

Lazyday.com and RockHouseEvents.com throw Bar Crawls every month!
