New bar set to open in Brevard Court

Courtyard Hooligans opens Friday, replacing the old George Herman's, which quietly closed in June.

The bar will be a European Soccer pub, serving up beers from all over the world, according to managing partner Kristian Pedersen.

The grand opening starts at 2 p.m. tomorrow and the party continues starting at 9:30 a.m. Saturday for the Arsenal game and even earlier on Sunday for the Manchester United vs. Manchester City game at 8:30 a.m. (No cover, but you do have to be a member. Sign up at the door.)

I give the guys props for coming up with a different concept than the rest of Charlotte's cookie-cutter sports bars, but I have to wonder whether there are enough soccer fans to sustain it.

What do you guys think?

I hope they renovated. That place was a dump as George Hermans!

I think it's a smart move...an uncommon theme, and Soccer is really starting to stick amongst American sports fans. Not to mention, we have the World Cup beginning in 2010 in South Africa, which is ticketed to be a HUGE draw. They should definitely attempt to capitalize on this before the competition.

I just hope when they mean beers "from all over the world", they mean something a little beyond Becks, Corona, Heineken, and Labatt's.

Now if they've got Unibroue, Fuller's or Paulaner on tap, I don't care what sport's on TV. It could be sumo wrestling and curling for all I care, I'll be there enjoying the good beer!

What's on tap for the Sunday morning game? Can they serve booze at that point? Will they have breakfast foods?

Anything's better than that GD Epicenter. Talk about criminals!

I think it's an excellent idea and something that is missing from Uptown.

Won't make the opening but I'll be checking it out

Football is the most boring game ever invented. I cannot believe you Buffoons pay exorbitant amounts of money watching this crap and buying jerseys, etc.

You turn a handful of mostly jerk offs into millionaires.

Nice going. Here's an idea, why don't you actually try playing a sport for yourself instead of Monday morning quarterbacking.

Charlotte is full of overweight couch potatoes.

I dont seem to really remember much of a European futbol following Charlotte or a futbol following in general. It will be a check and see for the first month, then it will lose interest, games in europe start at 8:30 am with the last game starting at 2:30pm, what will you do for the evening entertainment, show the MLS?

archnemesis - Do you ever read anything about the business side of sports? Manchester United may be worth more money than any sports franchise in the world.
