Tommy, Sonja and I will be speaking as part of the museum's New South for the New Southerner series, and we'll be talking about why we chose to live in Charlotte as well as giving a sneak peek of the Observer's annual newcomers magazine, Living Here. I'll specifically be talking about what makes the city appealing to young professionals.
The evening starts at 5:30 p.m. It's $5 per person. Wine and food will be provided by Mert's.

lol I love how there is always some guy that says, "if the girls dressed skanky it'd be better!" it should be a Paid to Party tradition to post that on every blog entry.
Anon 5:12 -- I'm guessing it's more casual than business attire. Let's say business casual just to be safe. I know, I know, it's an oxymoron.
I bet if we could see where the commenters were located, we'd learn that most of those with something negative to say are actually people stuck in Pittsburgh or Buffalo who are bitter that they can't join all their neighbors who upgraded to Charlotte over the past few years.
I grew up here and I don't get the appeal of Charlotte either... which is why I'm trying to leave ASAP.

I won't go, but Charlotte is a great place to live. If you don't like it then leave. And this comment is coming from a Yankee.
Oh, let's have more Charlotte bashing. It's always a foolproof identifier of sorry two-bit losers who can't correct their own shortcomings and instead blame the city they live in. No doubt, 4:45, you were a sorry two-bit loser in the last place you lived and you'll tote along your sorry two-bit loser identity the next place you pollute, er, move to.
Once identified, we can avoid them and then enjoy this nice place.
I have to agree that I don't get this column. A newspaper promoting someone who is "paid to party" in this economy is just insulting its own readers.
How many of its beat reporters did it let go because of lack of funds yet there is money to party?

usually the people that hate it so much tend to have bad jobs if at all.
I'm from Atlanta, and I would say that everyday there is something more exciting going on there for young professionals than here. If you don't believe me check www.atlantaillustrated.com
That being said, here I am, and I'm looking forward to a guide for new comers. Hopefully it's actual opinions and not paid influenced opinions.

Loving a place is more about who you are with than anything else. Just like a job. If you worked with all of your favorite people but the job sucked, you'd stick around just cause it was fun.
So maybe all these Charlotte haters just need to make some friends. And hint, hint - complaining about the city that other people DO like and have chosen to live - doesnt lend itself to developing friendships. Its just annoying and insulting.
