Hooters Uptown set to open

The familiar orange Hooters sign is up and the doors to the "delightfully tacky, yet unrefined" establishment are almost open.

The place known for its beer, buffalo wings, and, let's be honest, boobs, officially opens to the public Tuesday at 11 a.m. What a way to start the day.

According to a press release today, the new 5,900 square foot location on West Trade Street (formerly The Graduate) has a large patio area, 25 plasma TVs and seating that can accommodate up to 275 people.

What do you guys think? Will you go? Is uptown the right spot for Hooters?

I just walked by there today to see when they're opening. I'm a woman who is not at all intimidated by the Hooters ladies and love their wings, so I'm very glad they're there and can't wait to get my first order of 911 wings! I can't stand The Graduate anyway and like Hooters food a lot better. On a side note, anyone know why the Hooters in Matthews closed? We used to go there a lot. Does it have anything to do with the opening of the Uptown Hooters?

I'm all for any location where I can get boobies with ranch dressing and celery sticks.

I wont go. However, I think downtown is the perfect place for a Hooters. Especially when the Nascar thing opens. With Nascar, Football, Basketball, and all the conventions that come here Hooters will be very busy!!

I am actually shicked it took them this long to do it!

Can't we do better than another stupid chain restaurant opening downtown? I find thier restaurant gimmick outdated and, frankly, offensive. I'm not a prude, but I have young daughters that hopefully will grow up to respect themselves someday and NOT work at Hooters.
I'm just waiting for my 7 year old daughter to ask me why they named it Hooters next time we go to Discovery Place. "See honey, someone thought it would be funny to do a play on words since Hooters really is talking about the big boobies you have to be endowed with to work there, but they have an owl on the sign, and owls go hoo hoo, which is also what most of the patrons say when they go and the silicon shows up to serve them... anyway, it was so funny and the boobies so big that men and women who secretly wish they could work there go and eat food that is really horrible for you and is overpriced. Don't you see the beautiful business model here that capitalizes on our lust and stupidity?"

The place is so 15 years ago.

I got an idea, how about "Cockers". I can't wait to apply and degrade myself.

People that confuse Hooters with "just another strip joint except they serve food" amuse me with their ignorance. Hooters is a really fun place - excellent casual food, cold beer and the girls are pretty and fun to chat with. With the growing assortment of fun things to do in downtown Charlotte - IT'S ABOUT DAMNED TIME!!! - I think this place will be quite a hit.

I live at the Avenue and you can bet I'll be there. We've been dying for some no-nonsense casual fare besides stool pigeons for some time now.

I sure hope the chicks are hotter then the other spots in town...or maybe they relocate the top girls from the other locations and make a SUPER HOOTERS!

"Yes hot chick with short shorts and greezy chicken wings...I will pay WAY too much for beer to drink it while I undress you with my eyes!"

The food at Hooters is horrible, but you're right, it'll be packed during Speedweek.

They ain't got them thar faincy chicken wang houses up in the sticks. We gotsta put on our Sundy best and go ta Chawlott to see some purty gurls give us wangs. :)

GROSS! No, I won't be going. Mostly because I can't stand the smell of their wings. I do think its fitting for it to be downtown. I just wish they would open up something cool instead of a chain restaurant.

Hey idiots...The reason chain places open up is because original, cool, querky places you love so much close down in two weeks because they don't have the funds to back them. So spare me with the "chain food places are bad" crap. They are there for a reason. I'm not saying they are good, i'm just saying that's why they are there. Because they STAY there. How many "cool" joints have opened and closed in Charlotte over the past 3 years? Yeah, too many to remember. Because as "hip" and "cool" as they are, Johnny Cool Guy doesn't have the money to keep it open with the fickle crowd in the this town. Get over it. If you don't like it, go elsewhere or go to NaDa so you FEEL like you are better then the rest.

Who cares, people act like those women are naked, they are in freaking shorts and a tanktop, you can see more skin going to a local mall with the way some women and girls dress. If you don't like it don't freaking go, I have never understood why this restaurant causes so much drama, get a freaking life.

Sure I'll go occasionally. I ate at the Graduate and the Grad is gone. It'll be a restaurant downtown with good food - burgers, oysters, etc (I hate the breaded fried wings though). If people complain about another chain restaurant opening up downtown, they should have gone to ARPA before it ended-up closing for lunch.

Are they going to "grab" folks off the street and "pull" them inside. Nobody has ever been forced to go inside a Hooters.

Quit being so easily offended. Do you take your kids to the beach? What do you tell them about the scantidly clad women?

Grow up and become a Liberterian.

Just what Charlotte needs, another generic chain restaurant serving up beer, junk food, and side orders of tacky. Yay. And girls in halter tops and skimpy shorts...wow!...I know I can't wait. Banality is alive and well in the Queen City.

Maybe it will balance out the hi-brow yuppie snobs with some common-Joe types. Probably not...Charlotte is overrun with pretentious boobs (not the Hooters kind).

Chain food places ARE crap. They are for common trash who don't understand the value and quality of chef-owned restaurants. And there is a lot of common trash in this town.

I'm not a Hooters fan personally but I love the fact that they are opening uptown. They have a business model that works and the place will be a hit with the bankers and night time bar crawlers in the area already. Even better, it's a reflection of the city, and uptown area becoming stable enough to get the attention of these companies. Sure, they don't reflect the yuppie mentality or the uptown boosters' idea of how things should be, but those people don't represent the real Charlotte anyway. A couple chains mixed in with the locally owned spots is not a bad thing wither.

A lot of people knocking Hooters being in "MidTown" really need to get a life. The girls are not naked, They are dressed less skanky then what is seen in most parts of this city, and for the ones talking about how you need big breast to work their you are wrong. Most of the time when I go the girls have avg sized breast, not Huge ones that can barely fit into a bra. So get over the stereotype. For the people saying they want a Chef owned Restaurant, then why don't you pay for everyones meals there. Hooters is not for everyone and there food may not be the greatest but no one says you have to go there. There food hits a certain crowd and that crowd tends to go into that area more often then others. I think it will be a hit where it is, and I know I will give it a try every once in a while.

I'm a woman and I love Hooters. Their wings and buffalo shrimp are good (and yes greezy)and overall, their customer service is good also. Isn't that what eating out is all about?

I'll stick with the Uptown Cabaret 2AM breakfast buffet. Yum!

It will be a total success. If you don't like Hooters just like any other restaurant you can choose not to go.

The Inner Harbour in Baltimore has a Hooters that does very well...so does the Riverwalk in Jacksonville.

I'll be there on opening day (work Uptown) - enjoy the food and atmosphere. It will be a popular place before/after Panthers/Bobcats games.

Based on the other Hooters in town, not sure if the ladies will be as "nice" as the one's at Phil's.

I work in uptown and I'm always happy to see another restaurant open, means another choice during the week to eat at. Hooters will do very well there, it just surprises me it took them this long to realize it.

Good Lord, some of you people need to pull the collective plug out of certain part of your lower anatomies! You act as if the Uptown Cabaret just expanded to a new location! To answer the ladies earlier question, the Matthews location closed because they are focusing their resources on the Uptown location. Hooters' food is palatable, the atmosphere is enjoyable, the girls arent even wearing bikinis....jeez...please stop busting our chops about this. If you dont like Hooters...THEY DONT WANT YOU but stop wasting my time and everyone elses! put the blinders on you AND your kids! Find something else to whine and complain about...better yet...MOVE OUT OF CHARLOTTE!!
