Names they are a-changing

There's more shakeup in nightlife news this week with a couple of uptown venues changing ownership and names.

Rustic Martini (a cute spot, but in nowheresville on North Tryon) has been sold to Jason Roy. New name is Club Urban Affair. Grand opening: July 18.

In an e-mail to patrons last week, Rustic Martini owner Carlos Combs wrote, "It brings me great pleasure to have met many friends and hosted so many great events for you here in Charlotte. I thank you for always keeping it 'grown and sexy' and wish you and the future establishment as much success and happiness I have been blessed with."

He went on to add that he'll be opening another venue in 2010.

And Amnesia (otherwise known as V Lounge, V on 4th, etc.) has changed names yet again. It's now Bentley's RSVP, on the corner of Fourth and Poplar streets.

A rose by any other name would smell as sweet.

By the same token, changing the name of your bar or lounge is not going to make it a success. Hopefully the new owners of these establishments are going to try something different in order to make them successful.

If you own a bar, watch your staff. They need to at least pretend that they are happy to have people coming into your bar. Doesn't matter if they are nice to you (owner).

Any connection to Jim Emad's Bentley's restaurant in Charlotte Plaza?

"Club Urban Affair"? Who thinks of this crap?

Rustic Martini sounds much better. Who is gonna say "I'm going down to Club Urban Affair"? no one. It was easy to say I'm going to Rustic and people new what you meant. Sometimes simplicity is best.

It's about time that Charlotte has a true "Urban Night Club" that professional African American professionals over 25 can visit and have a good time. My wife and I cant wait to visit and see the new venue!

How long until the Bentley car company shuts Bentley's RSVP down ? Talk about copyright infringement ! They even stole the logo. I smell a huge lawsuit coming. Lame asses.
