Good job, Charlotte. Apparently your musical tastes warrant nothing more than second-rate cover bands. Good thing this city is where college greeks go to pasture.
No Simplified? Come on
It's my birthday. Happy Birthday to me!!!!!!
How appropriate. Clones entertaining clones.
No one expects the Stones or U2, but some non-cover bands would be nice...
And who said anything about being from the north?
So I will continue to have to leave Charlotte for any decent music. Maybe I can continue to go to Knoxville for Sundown in the City every Thursday night. That's real music. Wake up AA5 organizers. You are stuck with the over 35 club. Let's welcome in the new AA5 party goers.
You know someone has to comlain about something 24/7. Especially in this city, so why even bother. I'm sure that all the events will be a good time. And that's what it's about, so if they don't want to go, don't go. More beer and music for the rest!
Do you really think Charlotte could handle non-cover bands? One played once, and they were GREAT, I mean a KICK BUT guitarist tearing it up, but all the drunk bankers were more interested in how their hair looked.
It's not about the lame music, its about the women and cold beverages.
If it's not broken, don't fix it. No one goes to aa5 for the music. It's strictly a place to see & be seen and continues to draw masses every week. Unless the crowds dwindle in complaint, don't expect the music to change.
Silly haters. Nobody's expecting U2 or the Stones to play these types of events, but the same slate of wedding caliber cover bands every year is tired and old. Why not the likes of Simplified, Elevator Action, Avett Brothers, Benji Hughes, etc.? or even some semi famous groups like Cowboy Mouth, sister Hazel, Atheneum, etc? Surely AA5 can raise the bar a little.
well said 11:05. Saw Bengi the other week at Visulite, great show and grew up on Athenaeum would love to get some acts like that down there.
Wow, I am amazed at the level of pure hatred in these posts. AA5 is okay. If you don't like the music or find the event lame then don't go. Better yet, if you think you can provide better entertainment contact the event organizers and give it a try. It's so much easier to sit on the wall and complain then it is to take action.
Y'all must not realize that Alive After Five is not really about music. The music is really just a side show at the party. People rarely go just for the music, they go to hang out with their friends and have a good time. If you want to see music you go to the Double Door, Amos's, or the Visulite. Cover bands are perfect for AA5. Unless everyone wants to start having to pay an admission fee for it, it should stay the way it is.
In the words of Mark Wahlberg in the movie Rock Star: "We are not a COVER BAND" "We are a TRIBUTE BAND".
Last years Epicentre line up was much better. Keep the cover bands at wachovia!
When will they have bands we all like. An even swap isn't a swindle.
Charlotte has more whiners than any other city that I've lived in. I hope you guys aren't there on Thursday...you might ruin my good time. Thank you in advance for going home right after work.
Hey, let's ask Motley Crue to come play after work. Now there's some rockin for ya. That's what you Snooty, Boring, stick-up-the-@@@ judgemental Charlotteans need--a shot of whiskey and some Crue. yeah. that's right. That's what you need to shake the stick-out-of-your-*** (Ooops--my apology to everyone--I think I'm really getting sick of living in Ballantyne.
Any word on whether new bands will be added to the lineup beyond July?
I agree with the first post. This town needs to support it's local musicians and sprinkle in some musicians who actually write their own music. Once again, Pink Polo collars will be popped, croakies will be in full effect and the boat shoes that never seem to go away will be dancing to some really strong talent. Oh...and another steak house chain is sure to be opening up at a location near you !!! This makes me sick... "How bout another shrimp on the barbie!"
I'm going to guess the guys in the pink polos and boat shoes are doing better with the ladies than you are.
Tad- I guess you took my comment as a personal attack. Actually, differentiating yourself from the rest of the pack can actually be quite effective.
This schedule is an embarrassment. Good grief. What a joke. Leave it to "organizers" to completely miss the boat once again, unless all they're going for is to attract a bunch of stooges to the EpiCentre. Nice job.
This is a lazy and lame schedule. Typical though.
Woo hoo. Same old lame lineup. To the posters who said people are not there for the music - why even have bands then??
Yep, a little better last year. Cover bands suck, not their fault, people seem to show up anyway. Bud Light Lime and those bands will go perfect together.
Oh my !
I cannot stand the moronic suburban children at the EpiCenter. It's a shame since I actually live uptown.
AntiSeen's not playing it this year?
Bummer.
What's with all the Charlotte haters? If you don't like it here just LEAVE!
Most of us don't hate Charlotte, just the choice of bookings for this particular event. Same old tired stuff, over and over....
I don't think they probably have the resources to get some of the types of the bands you guys want. However, I think 11:05 is dead on. They should be able to swing bands like that.
"Good thing this city is where college greeks go to pasture."
HAHAHA. Most fitting description ever.
I love Alive After 5. I go after work bcause it is fun and there's other single people, music and oh yeah - BEER. If you think it's so lame, I got an idea - don't show up and we will all be happy.
Red anthro- Alivr after five is a great concept, however if you are going to have music, wouldn;t you like to hear something good? U2 cover band? The point is- there are alot of good local bands that would love to have that stage. I think we should support our own and not some 45 year old guy in a pair of tight acid washed jeans with absolutely no talent. The beer would taste the same, the girls would still be in their sundresses and the guys can still pop their collars. Maybe even step it up and push a wrist band up around their forearm. All would be well with thr added bonus of some good music. VIVA LA VINCE FROM SHAMWOW!!!
