Newest bar crawl theme: the Snuggie?

From a cheesy infomercial to pop culture parody, the Snuggie -- that cozy fleece blanket with sleeves -- has quickly become a must-have home accessory.

Ellen DeGeneres wore one on her show, Matt Lauer's co-anchors coaxed him to try one on, Jay Leno uses them for an easy joke and they have become a popular topic on Facebook, spawning status updates devoted to their coziness and even a fan page that's 13,900 strong.

And now, they've even snuggied their way into the nightlife scene.

The Snuggie Pub Crawl is now coming to a city near you. The idea for the crawl was started by a pair of Chicago twentysomethings who recognized the cult-like following the Snuggie has attracted. A dozen other cities of future Snuggie Pub Crawls are now listed on the site. (Want to add Charlotte to the list? Send them an e-mail.) The events are strictly BYO-Snuggie.

I ordered one of my own (purely for research purposes, of course). In fact, I'm wearing it as I blog.

Now it's your turn, readers. E-mail me photos of you (or your friends) in Snuggies, whether you're walking the dog, reading on the couch or having a drink at the bar. I'll compile the best photos and post them on CharlotteObserver.com.

Where did you get your snuggie?

not that bar crawls have to have a point, I just wonder what fuels and whats so fun about a "snuggie" bar crawl, besides looking ridiculous in public?

Why being able to stay warm while also being able to hold your beer without that blanket getting in the way like it use to on all the other bar crawls silly. ;-)

Forget the snuggie, it's all about the Slanket. www.theslanket.com.

make sure to bring these on the crawl with you, just in case you find that special someone

When you try too hard to be cool by being ironic, the only ironic thing is how uncool you end up being.

Can I just wear my Robe backwards? Thats all this invention is.

that bar crawl is going to be hard in this city. Girls like to wear less when they go out on a bar crawl not completly cover up

Worst idea ever.

This is the equivalent to a "college hooded sweatshirt party" that encourages girls to leave their cute, trendy, more flattering outfits at home. Sounds like a BLAST.

A snuggie bar crawl would look pretty menacing. Imagine a group of intoxicated monks staggering around a concrete metropolis.

Good Gosh, Here I have been trying to get my husband to understand just how STUPID these things are and that I could not believe that anyone would buy one and here you are promoting them in bar crawls!! He just couldn't wait to send me the link. Thanks for the help.

Yet again, another pointless story. Great job, Aarthun. You've enlightened us all.

That's awesome, I hope they do one here.

I just bought a snuggie the other day too. Got it here

All you freakin' losers who got sucked into buying Snuggies are now trying to justify them. Go get your pet rocks and Chia Pets out and play with them.

i think its pretty funny. too many haters man. if people wanna do something silly, let em. and why are you reading Paid to Party if you hate all that stuff

Why is everyone falling for this? The scam is getting you to buy them to be cute, clever, and make your friends laugh.

They actually had snuggies when I was a child back in the 80s. They were called robes way back then :)

snuggies are wonderful :)

Also, they're not really like a backwards robe because of the shape / length. It's really like a blanket you can wear.

Anyway, I love mine!

Why not? It is something to do and something that is popular right now in pop culture. we need more stuff to do here in Charkitte however I do hear the Slanket is even better :)

Beware, the Web site is deceptive. I tried to order the commercial's offer and they conned me into buying four of the damn things. Now, I've had to send them back and duke it out with the credit card company to dispute the transaction. Google snuggie scam to read more about all the problems these infernal contraptions have caused ...

I can see it already... the summer version of the snuggie bar crawl will be the hospital gown crawl.
