What happened to the bands from the 70's they use to bring in?

Ed Hardouchey said...

Damn... no Vanilla Ice again this year.

Anonymous said...

Vanilla Ice has NEVER been to Speed Street. They actually have very good entertainment for a free event.

Very underwhelming.

You may consider it the "Redneck Festival", if so crown me a proud King!

Only wish Joan Rivers was here to see Clint.

Lifehouse is a pretty good band for free. I would not mind seeing them.

None of the bands are "redneck", but that doesn't change the fact that 90% of the people that attend this event are. I have never seen so many scary looking people in my entire life.

Probably the weakest lineup since Speed Street started...

Karmakrazy said...

Why is the lineup so poor this year? I have gone to speed street every single year, and this is the weakest I have ever seen it! What is the reason?

Lifehouse & Gavin DeGraw are the non country headliners this year. I'd say in years past they've had better acts such as Fuel, 3 Doors Down (multiple times), Chevelle, & many other greats... But its still an unbeatable free local event, DON'T KNOCK IT. Its one of the few good things that goes on in Charlotte. The event helps to distract from the busy pace of whats going on up at the speedway.

pretty gay lineup. Where is mc hammer or three doors down? I thought those were speed street staples. Who is Clint black ????

Why doesn't everyone whine, cry and complain a little more!

What a disaster...I guess times are tough all over. There used to be three stages, too.

Attention all Gastonians: Your line-up is complete. DOn't forget where Bar Charlotte and Whiskey River is, they are counting on you as they do every weekend. SPEEDSTREET SUCKS!!!

Johnny Hayseed said...

Yehaw!!!! Me and my uncle-daddy can not wait to leave Gastonia and come over for the free shows. I do hear a lot about Bar Charlotte and Whiskey River as well. I hear that we are welcome there and aint nobody around eatin raw fish and other things like that. My pastor says that is again God's law. Wait a min, time to hit the dog...

O.A.R is a BIG name, and the hometown boys of Simplified are opeining for them, oh and its FREE! Should be a great show.

Mike: Your last name suits you well. Come to Gastonia and run your preppy mouth. We do not serve watermellon martinis. Real ladies LOVE cowboys and country guys. I'll take the women from Coyote Joe's over the women from Blue anyday.

I wish they had a requirement that you have a full set of teeth before you are allowed in Speed Street.

Anonymous said...

I hard they dropped the ahrd rock acts because the crowds got too rowdy...unlike all the fight I've seen break out at some of the country shows.

I'd take a country boy over a preppy boy any day. I need a man who can be a MAN, and doesn't spend more time than a lady getting ready. And yes, there are some scary people there, but that is what makes it fun! People watching at speed street is the best!

i think some of you would be pleased if there was no kind of nothing to do here at all or if all forms of entertainment just stayed away altogether. what would you b!tc#, moan, whine and complain about then?

If it's that bad - don't go - just take buffy out to eat - act like you have money and show off - I know, act like you used to work at Bank of America and have Ken Lewis come along - bring a resume with ya !

Charlotte Yuppie said...

If it does not have the word "Upscale" in it i will NOT go.

Anonymous said...

I would hate to know I got on here to bit@H about something I had no intentions on going to. JUST DON'T GO! Oh, and nevermind the Gastonians, keep your babies/strollers at home. It is too crowded to be hitting people in the ankles with your triple-baby strollers.

Oh good, Simplified is playing again. Hacks...

From Debbie What about the bud stage? Last few years it's not worth going to speed streets bring back some good bands.

I love SpeedStreet, but I do agree that the lineup this year isn't as good as it has been in the past. BUT you can't really say anything about it... IT'S FREE! If you don't like the lineup, simple answer... don't go. I'm not a huge fan of really any of the bands playing, but I'll still go and hang out, and the people watching is great! It's like being at the zoo! :)

Mike Cocktosin & Johnny Hayseed - I hope you are getting counseling for your anger management issues.

And for the rest of the complainers: I have detected a pattern on this and other Observer blogs. If something you don't like to do comes to town, you trash it. If racing isn't your thing, just don't come uptown Memorial Day weekend. If racing isn't your thing and you work uptown, come on outside anyway and get a funnel cake. Funnel cake will ALWAYS make you feel better. If you come to Speed Street regularly, realize that in this rotten economy, anything you can get for free is good.

Clint Black is creepy

Speed Street, like a NASCAR race, is full of every sort of person you could imagine. Now, I suppose if you can't stand to be around people who aren't just like you, it would be a bad experience, but everyone else is welcome.

If you dont like it stay home. More room for me to PARTY!!!! I will be at Jason Aldean for sure.

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAA. EWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, whatever cowboy. That's what I want, a real woman from Coyote Joe's.

All I can say is that I live uptown a block from Tryon and this festival and am so god damned happy that this is the second year in a row that I managed to schedule a vacation out of town at the same time Speed Street is in town.

Now that's worthy of a YEE HAW !!!!!

You can't beat speed street! It is the sh*t walking around getting sh*tfaced and get free samples of everything imaginable

Really sad. The worst and smallest line up ever. The streets were already too crowded and full of fights with multiple stages. This should be a disaster.

I am a woman and was hit in the back with her fist by some toothless stranger in the crowd while just watching a band a few years back.It IS a tough crowd, but it used to be worth it. Not this year. I love Lifehouse too, but not enough to deal with those nuts all in the same spot at the same time.

Anonymous said...

Yeah but the had alot better bands in the past....this year sucks compared to the previous years...like 04-06 there were much better artists....But I will still be there just like every year....

we have seen some great shows at speed street , last year we were up front for seether (who sucked btw)we were right on the retaining wall GOT CRUSHED, but loved every min of it . we saw puddle of mudd rightop front for that one too another great show , and FREE, i have paied to see both
and i must say they just put seether on the wrong stage (the smallest) with the largest crowd, big mistake,

Anonymous said...

yeah its free so I can't complain that much...but why only 2 stages! It is weak compared to past events :(
