More free summer concerts

The EpiCentre isn't the only place hosting free concerts this summer -- you can also get your free-music fix at the U.S. National Whitewater Center.

In addition to its popular Thursday night Subaru River Jam, the USNWC is starting a Saturday event as well. The Summer Saturdays Concert Series starts this weekend and runs through July. Free entry, but parking is $5. The concerts run from 6-9 p.m.

Here's a preliminary lineup:
  • June 6: Jeff Luckadoo
  • June 13: Greg Lilley
  • June 20: Dixie Electric Company
  • June 27: Tom Rucker
  • July 11: The Brubakers
  • July 18: Scott Smith
  • Aug. 1: Nita B & The Swingin' Soiree
  • Aug. 8: The Operators
  • Aug. 15: The Matt Hatfield Group
Also starting this weekend is the Marshall Park Music Festival, a Sunday jazz fest that runs through the end of the month. From 1-7 p.m. each week you can hear live music from four different bands including such acts as Thom Crumpton and Jared Allen.

GreaT! Now the log flume will lose even more money!
'Free' concerts are more tax payer dollars down the drain!

Anon 2:34: Think about it...Don't you think getting people out for a free concert will allow them to see how cool the facility is and get them to come back? They have a restaurant on-site that people will eat from and also be ordering beer/wine from during the concert. It's free but people will come out and spend money at the place....use your head before posting.

Great idea! The whitewater center really is a cool place - and perfect for listening to tunes by the water. Hopefully this will get people out there to see how much fun it is. The zipline is so much fun and the food's actually pretty decent at the restaurant there, which was a bit of a surprise.

I personally have gone to see several free concerts at the Whitewater Center and can honestly say that is is a nice event and a good time...

I have not eaten at there I saw many people that were....and that is people spending money as I did...

This is a great facility and just adds to the overall good of the Charlotte area in general....

I feel that the free concerts are a plus and should continue allowing much more visibility to many people who would otherwise never visit Whitewater.....

Better than going to the epicenter

Epicenter is horrible. Great Idea for much needed exposure at the Whitewater Center.

Will someone please explain to me what is so horrible about the EpiCentre? I think it's great people have options all over the Charlotte area. EpiCentre is great for hanging out uptown and I think the White Water event will be a nice change up.

To each his own, I enjoy EpiCenter. Some gloomy Gus’ will find fault in anything. The only hassle could have been parking, but you can park at 7th Street Station and walk over. Or park further down the rail line and get off right in front of EpiCenter. I’ve yet to visit the Whitewater center, but plan to. I don’t even know where it is. The only advertising I’ve ever seen about it is at the airport, and that’s because happened to be working at the airport. I'm taking some kids to see Ryan Cabrera at Epicenter.
