George Herman's, a sports bar tucked into the charming Brevard Court, closed its doors within the past two weeks.
The closing comes just about a month after the bar expanded, adding a separate room off the lower level previously occupied by another tenant.
The bar's owner couldn't be reached for comment this afternoon, and the phone number at the bar has been disconnected.

Murphy's on Woodlawn also closed. It's ashame both were good places to hang out.
Never saw anybody in George Hermans. Wasn't the most appetizing looking place from outside anyway. Surpised it was open this long.
Uptown rent is at 3 year ago levels...George Herman's wont be the first place to close. BINACO is raping those bars on the corner of 5th and tryon. With RiRas burnt down, Brick, Attic, Phils, Connollys, etc... Each bar pays in upwards of 15k a month for rent. Epicenter has sucked the life out of the independent bars...No one can afford to stay open at those lease prices.
Watch em fold....
I hate to hear that these smaller bars might be facing hard times cause I can honestly say I hate the Epicenter. Its like college night every night of the week. Hang on little guys !
Epicentre isn't all bad. It's something cool to do and more eating options before doing stuff Uptown.
I have never heard of George Herman's.
Murphy's had recently expanded too, but restaurants are leaving that area because it's shady. I heard their food was mediocre and who wants to sit in a room full of smoke while eating anyway. Hurry up January 2, 2010.
George Herman's was a reasonable place to hang out after work and have a beer. As the living quarters load up around that area, I hope places like this can find a way to stay open as there will need to be options.
Charlotte would be a lot better off with more small locally owned businesses than a bunch of chains.
Murphys was in a shady area, the food was awful, but they hosted one of the best karaoke nights in town on Saturdays and it was also reasonably priced. Again, losing locally owned business is bad.
I don't really agree with locally owned is always better. Franchises are often locally owned and the managers, assistants, and even lower employees can get health insurance at a lot of them. Same thing with places like Lowe's and Home Depot. The local hardware store had 1 employee that was making minimum wage with no benefits. At least working at a mega store you get some of those perks you don't get in locally owned places. Most local restaurants can't give their employees these perks so it's often better to go work for a chain (and some chains are decent).
Everyone keeps blaming everything on EpiCentre. Businesses are going down all over the county not just Charlotte. Give the EpiCentre some credit for creating 100's of jobs that would not be here if the EpiCentre didn't open.
Why can't we allow smoking in bars? If I own the property I should be able to allow my patrons to smoke considersing cigarettes are a legal product. If the smoking ban was such a good idea the market place would have already banned smoking from most places. I understand people who don't like smoking, but you do not have to go to places that allow people to smoke. This will kill small little bars all over Charlotte!
Guns are legal too but you can't walk into a bar and use them.
The pleasure police. You people need to get a life!!!!!!
sorry but can someone tell me where brevard court is?
I cant believe I have someone saying a locally owned business is not as attractive to a community than a chain. If you want to live in the land of the chain - move to Concord. The city should have creativity and uniqueness - that is how you attract visitors and bring money into the town. No one says lets go to Charlotte, they have a great food at their Applebees!
The epicentre is gross, and populated by suburbanites. If you live uptown and frequent the Epicentre shame on you.
Brevard Court is basically the outside part of Latta Arcade between Tryon and Church Streets.
